You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. The two pie charts below show psychologists’ employment after graduating.

The two pie charts compare anticipated and actual employment destinations of psychologists after graduation across five different sectors.

Overall, there was a clear mismatch between expectations and reality. While private clinics were expected to be the dominant employer, the actual outcomes show a much more even distribution, with schools and universities emerging as the most common destination. Community agencies also employed a larger share of graduates than initially anticipated.

According to the anticipated figures, the majority of graduates were expected to work in private clinics, accounting for just over two thirds of the total. Hospitals and medical centres were predicted to employ a relatively small proportion, while schools and universities and community agencies were expected to attract similar and more modest shares. Only a minimal proportion was anticipated to enter other types of employment.

In contrast, the actual data reveal a significant shift. Employment in schools and universities became the largest category, representing nearly half of graduates. Community agencies also accounted for a substantial share, while the proportion entering private clinics was far lower than expected. Hospitals and medical centres employed fewer graduates than anticipated, whereas other employment slightly exceeded initial predictions.
